Paris Attacker 'Undoubtedly' Had Accomplice

The man who killed four shoppers in a hostage stand-off in Paris "undoubtedly" had an accomplice, France's Prime Minister says.

Manuel Valls said "the hunt will go on" for the person who helped Amedy Coulibaly, who shot dead a policewoman in southern Paris before opening fire at a kosher supermarket.

The 32-year-old was fatally shot with at least 40 bullets as the siege came to a violent end.

Investigators have been trying to find his partner, 26-year-old Hayat Boumeddiene, but Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said she crossed into Syria from the country on 8 January.

She arrived in an Istanbul airport on 2 January from Madrid, before the attacks, and stayed in a hotel.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid tribute to victims during a visit to the Paris supermarket where the hostage drama happened.

Under massive security protection and to cries of his nickname, "Bibi", Mr Netanyahu paid tribute to those killed at the site.

French media is reporting the policewoman shot dead by Coulibaly, Clarissa Jean-Phillipe, has received a posthumous Legion of Honour, the country's highest decoration.

It comes ahead of a ceremony to honour the three police officers killed during the attack on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo last Wednesday.

Coulibaly's mother and sisters have condemned his actions, saying: "We hope there will not be any confusion between these odious acts and the Muslim religion."

It previously emerged that Cherif Kouachi, who carried out the attack on Charlie Hebdo along with his brother Said, had met Coulibaly in prison.

Mr Valls said France would move to isolate Islamist detainees from the rest of the prisoner population, to prevent jails from becoming a breeding ground for radicals.

This measure "must become widespread" but "it must be done discerningly and intelligently", he said.

It came after a video emerged showing Coulibaly pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group.

In video verified by the SITE Intelligence Group, he said he had worked in coordination with Said and Cherif Kouachi, the "brothers from our team".

"We did things a bit together and a bit apart, so that it'd have more impact," he said in fluent French, adding that he had helped the brothers financially with a "few thousand euros" for the operation.

The video also showed him doing push-ups and featured automatic rifles, pistols and ammunition. He spoke beneath the black-and-white flag used by many Islamic militants.

Meanwhile, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve promised to boost security at Jewish institutions, telling parents of a Jewish school to the south of Paris that soldiers would also be posted as reinforcements.

Video has emerged of the Paris supermarket gunman Amedy Coulibaly defending the attacks on a satirical magazine and a Jewish supermarket that left 17 dead.

Coulibaly also pledges allegiance to the Islamic State in the clip, in which he is seen with a gun, exercising and giving speeches in front of an IS flag.

He said: "What we're doing at the moment is totally legitimate, taking into consideration what they are doing.

"It's well deserved, considering how long it's been going on.

"You cannot expect to attack us, the caliphate and Islamic State, and not expect any kind of response."

The SITE Intelligence Group said it had verified the video, in which Coulibaly said he worked with the Charlie Hebdo attackers, Said and Cherif Kouachi.

"The brothers in our team, one of us did Charlie Hebdo and I did the others," he said.

On Thursday, Clarissa Jean-Philippe was killed by Coulibaly after responding to reports of a traffic accident as a municipal police officer in the suburb of Montrouge.

A day earlier, Said and Cherif Kouachi attacked the offices of Charlie Hebdo, leaving 12 people dead.

On Friday, Coulibaly walked into a kosher supermarket in the eastern suburb of Vincennes armed with two Kalashnikov rifles.

He killed four people and took more than a dozen others hostage, before being killed by police after a stand-off with officers.

Before the raid by police, Coulibaly had demanded the Kouachi brothers be released.

At the time, they were trapped in a printing house near Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport.

All three men were killed in almost simultaneous raids by police.

It has also emerged that the shooting of a jogger in a Paris suburb on the same day as the Charlie Hebdo massacre has been linked to Coulibaly.

Ballistic tests on the shell cases from the shooting in Fontenay aux Roses linked them to the automatic weapon at the supermarket two days later, a prosecutor said.

The jogger was seriously injured.

Authorities are still hunting Coulibaly's "armed and dangerous" partner Hayat Boumeddiene, who left for Turkey on 2 January and may have travelled to Syria.

An employee at the printing business besieged by the Charlie Hebdo attackers was able to help police kill the terrorists after texting tactical information to them.

The 26-year-old graphic designer, who has been named in reports as Lilian Lepere, took refuge "under a sink in the canteen" upstairs at the business in Dammartin-en-Goele, according to Paris prosecutor Francois Molins.

Brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi were holed up there after killing 12 people at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and going on the run.

A source told the AFP news agency Mr Lepere was "terrified".

But despite this, he managed to remain undetected and began communicating with police outside via text message.

Mr Lepere sent them "tactical elements such as his location inside the premises", Mr Molins said.

The source added that Mr Lepere could hear the suspects talking, which helped reassure him and gave him more information to send to the forces outside.

A separate source said the man was also able to communicate with his family.

The brothers had taken the manager of the store hostage, but released him after he helped Said with a neck wound he had sustained in a firefight with police.

At around 5pm local time on Friday, automatic gunfire and explosions could be heard as police moved in to end the siege.

Officials said the brothers had emerged from the building and opened fire on police before they were killed.

An armoured car gave them access to the upper floor to free Mr Lepere, a source said.

He was taken to police headquarters, where he was quickly reunited with his family, another source close to the case said, adding he was "shocked" but "OK".

Mr Lepere's father said the family was "doing fine", and thanked the police and the "people who helped".

At the same time, the siege at a kosher supermarket in Paris was also coming to a bloody end.

It began when Amedy Coulibaly, who is believed to be an ally of the brothers, went into the store and took out a Kalashnikov.

A father called Ilan and his three-year-old son quickly hid in the supermarket's refrigeration unit, two relatives told AFP.

Sources close to the investigation said at least three other people were with them.

Ilan removed his jacket and wrapped his son in it to protect the toddler from the cold.

The group remained there for almost five hours.

Ilan's mother quickly realised her son and grandson were hidden and decided not to try and contact them.

She instead gave her son's number to the police, who were able to use it to track the location of Ilan and other hostages inside the supermarket.

According to Mr Molins, this knowledge may have played a part in their survival when police finally stormed the store.
